BEST SEASONS FOR MAKALU BASE CAMP AND BEYOND TO KHUMBU, EVEREST:
For this high-altitude adventure to Makalu Base Camp and beyond to Khumbu, Everest. The best seasons are spring and autumn/fall, the most favorable times for all adventures around the Himalayas. The spring begins in March and ends in May, a lively time for pleasant walks and scenic views. Most days are fine and clear with enough sunshine hours till late afternoon from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. It can get overcast in the afternoon sometimes, with chances of light rains and snowfalls. Days are much longer with sunlight hours, but cold morning and late afternoon till nighttime. Depending upon altitude and overnight stops around the high Khumbu and Everest regions. Spring is the best time for nature lovers, when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons of various species. The next best season is autumn/fall, where most days are bright, with sunny days. for clear views. Autumn/fall starts from September to November, one of the high seasons in Nepal for trekking. Days are fine with crystal clear blue sky, but it gets dark soon due to limited sunshine hours. Morning and late afternoon until nighttime are cold, with chances of light snowfall.
EXPERIENCE RELIGION & CULTURES OF THE MAKLU AND KHUMBU SHERPAS:
The higher Himalayan region of Mid-Eastern Nepal, around Makalu and Khumbu, Everest, is inhabited by the Sherpa. Known as the highlanders of Everest and Eastern Himalayas, they are the pioneers as mountain guides. The Sherpa follow a Buddhist religion and culture, similar to the Tibetan predecessors. The first part of the trek leads to mid-hills inhabited by mixed tribes, with Kirat Rai, which includes Magar and Gurung. As well as with a few Hindu Brahmin and Chettries, Dalit’s. The Sherpa villages of Makalu and Khumbu, Everest are adorned with monasteries, rows of prayer walls, and spinning wheels and Chortens. FOODS, ACCOMMODATION AND LODGES FACILTIES:
Trekkers on the first few days of walks from Num Village, after the drive from Tumlingtar to Tashi Gaon. The last village, spending overnights in a simple standard of lodges. From Tashi Gaon onwards to Makalu overnights, in basic lodge accommodations. Where all lodges on this trek until Chukung, staying in a simple Tea House. All rooms with common bathe and toilets serve only a simple short-listed food menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Simple meals of Nepali Dhal Bhat (boiled rice, with seasonal vegetables and Dal a lentil of varieties of smaller beans). Tibetan bread, pancakes, chapatti, momos stuffed meats, or vegetable dumplings include noodles fried or in a soup. Variation of eggs as per one choice, but from Chukung entering the Khumbu and Everest region. Trekkers will be surprised by various standards of lodges and resorts, from budget, and moderate to luxury lodges. Lodges with attached baths and toilets, with a comprehensive food menu from Continental, Chinese, Indian, Tibetan/Sherpa, and Nepali foods. As well as bakery items, some lodges from Namche to Lukla offer Mexican, Italian, Korean, and Japanese foods. All lodges with large dining rooms, lighted with gas lamps, and small hydro or solar power, only for dinner time. On this trek for a week after Makalu Base Camp until Chukung, overnights in tented camping, with two men tent. Includes dining tents as the size of the group supported by separate kitchens with cook and kitchen staff. All foods in camping are cooked in LPG Gas or Kerosene stoves, the cook will prepare all types of best meals.
PHYSICAL FITNESS REQUIREMENT AND INSURANCE:
For this tough and adventurous trek, participants members must be in good physical shape. As well as with sound health for the challenges of climbing on steep uphill and long downhill’s. Including the cold morning and night freezing temperatures, as well as walking on snow and ice sometimes. The age should be a minimum of 16 to a maximum of 70 years old. For below under 18 must be accompanied by parents and guardians. All trekkers must have Travel and Medical Insurance in case of unfortunate accidents and illness. Sometimes, the trek may have to be re-routed to other safe destinations. In case of broken trails from avalanches, and rock falls including the bad and unfavorable weather conditions. The scheduled flights from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar or from Lukla can be delayed or canceled sometimes due to bad weather. Where trekkers should be well aware of all the unfortunate situations that can happen. The company will make the best effort for the safety and conveyance of all clients. Some members of the group might get ill and might need immediate evacuation. Using the fastest transportation like the services of a Helicopter, to bring the patient to the nearest hospital. Then follows the trail to Tashi-Gaon, the last permanent village with human habitation, and the other places towards Makalu Base Camp. From Khongma and Barun Valley onwards to Makalu base camp, only temporary settlements with few simple Tea Houses and lodges. However, the charming scenery will add flavour to the adventures besides spending overnights on a simple lodge. After Tashi Gaon Village, and then towards sheer mountain wilderness, as the climb leads through lovely forest. Lined by tall trees of rhododendrons, pines, firs, oaks, and magnolia, with bamboo grooves. The walk leads to higher mountainous areas from Khongma onwards, facing stunning views of the Makalu and Baruntse as far as Kanchenjunga. The trail follows past icy lakes to cross over Tutu-La and Shipton-La pass to reach picturesque Barun Valley. Enclosed by the towering rock cliffs and snow-capped peaks, the walk gets better despite the altitude gain. The air gets thinner on reaching the first main highlights at Makalu Base Camp. Everest, known famously as the Khansung Face of Everest. Mt. Makalu is the 5th world’s highest at 8,463 m/27, 766 feet, with a pyramid shape. The summit is a black rocky top, hence the name as Makalu means the Great Black. The first ascent was by the French Expeditions on May 15th, 1955. From then on few groups of mountaineers often visit for the climb of Mt. Makalu. It is one of the toughest, and most technical
mountains to reach its summit. From Makalu Base Camp the true adventures start, heading higher around the hidden pockets of the Himalayas. Overlooking the closest views of Mt. Makalu, as the climbs get tougher and steeper on a rocky faint path. Then reach on top of West Col, popularly called Sherpani Col, a high pass of above 6,142 m. From the top enjoy the spectacular close views of Mt. Makalu, Chamlang, and Baruntse Himal. Includes views of Everest, Lhotse,
and Nuptse as far as Kanchenjunga on the Far East horizon. After a great dramatic adventure crossing over the West and Sherpani Cols. Then the walk reaches the boundaries of Makalu, Barun Conservation, and Sagarmatha National Park, within Khumbu and Everest areas. Enjoy another rest day at Panch Pokhari small five-glacial pond, located within Hongu Valley. As well as close beneath the towering Baruntse Himal and Amphu Peak. After a relaxing time at Panch Pokhara amidst giant peaks and the hidden valley of Hongu. Getting ready for another high pass to cross over Amphu Labtsa-La, quite a technical ridge for traverses like Sherpani Col. Using crampons, ice axe, and main rope supports to reach the bottom of the pass to land around Khumbu areas. Around the far eastern end of Imjatse Valley close to the base of Island Peak. A famous and popular trekking peaks among the trekkers and mountaineers, from here onwards back to human civilization. As the trail follows to Chukung and Dingboche settlements, after being in complete mountain wilderness for a week. From here onwards back into lovely lodges for overnights halts, as the walk leads down on scenic trails. The walk leads to the first village of Khumbu at Pangboche and then climbs to a beautiful location at Tengboche. A scenic spot for Everest Panorama with close views of majestic Ama Dablam and an array of snow peaks. A lovely place with a colourful and impressive monastery of Tengboche, surrounded by a lovely alpine forest. After Tengboche on the easy downhill trail with ups to reach the famous Namche Bazaar, the hub of Khumbu Sherpa. As well as for trekkers and mountaineers with nice lovely lodges and restaurants to enjoy, along with glorious views. From Namche, our adventurous walks slowly lead down to Lukla, the town with an amazing airport for the last overnight. The next morning a short and scenic flight brings you back to the hustle and bustle of city life in Kathmandu.
