BEST SEASONS FOR GOKYO & EVEREST BASE CAMP VIA CHO-LA PASS TREKKING:
The best time and seasons for this marvelous adventures are Spring andautumn/fall seasons. The spring begins in March and ends in May, a lively time for pleasant walks and scenic views. Most days are fine and clear with enough sunshine hours till late afternoon from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. It can get overcast in the afternoon sometimes, with chances of light rains and snowfalls. Days are much longer with sunlight hours, but cold morning and late afternoon till nighttime. Depending upon altitude and overnight stops around the high Khumbu and Everest regions. Spring is the best time for nature lovers, when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons of various species. The next best season is autumn/fall, where most days are bright, with sunny days for clear views. Autumn/fall starts from September to November, one of the high seasons in Nepal for trekking. Days are fine with crystal clear blue sky, but it gets dark soon due to limited sunshine hours. Morning and late afternoon until nighttime are cold, and chances of light snowfall.

EXPERIENCE RELIGION & CULTURES OF THE KHUMBU SHERPAS:
The higher Himalayan region of Eastern Nepal, around Solu and Khumbu, is inhabited by the Sherpa. Known as the highlanders of Everest and Eastern Himalayas, they are the pioneers as mountain guides. The Sherpa’s are interwoven with strong Buddhist religion and cultures, similar to the Tibetan predecessors. The first part of the trek on Everest Three High Passes leads through several traditional villages adorned with Buddhist monuments. Includes monasteries, rows of prayer walls, and spinning wheels and Stupas known as Chortens. The Sherpa celebrates their own New Year called Gyalbo Losar falls in in winter times of February or early March. 2024 is the year of a Dragon, quite similar to the Tibetan and Chinese New Year. The Sherpa also enjoys other religious festivals such as the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. Takes place at in end of April or May, as per the Tibetan Buddhism Lunar Calendar. Including the colorful Mani Rimdu Festival at Tengboche Monastery.

FOODS, ACCOMMODATION AND LODGES FACILTIES AROUND KHUMBU:
Trekkers on the first few days of walks from Lukla will be amazed at the standard of lodges. Providing the facilities in every village from budget, standard to luxury class hotels, resorts, lodges, and inns. Where one can have the options of rooms from attached or common bathrooms and toilets. Most standard lodges serve a comprehensive food menu from breakfast, oats porridge, and cereals to cornflakes with toast/chapattis and pancakes. Includes a choice of egg variation. Lunch and Dinner from Continental, Chinese, Indian, Nepali, and Tibetan main course with a choice of soups. The rooms in lodges and food are the best in the Khumbu areas, en route to Everest Base Camp. After Namche Bazaar to Lobuche and Gorakshep the lodge accommodations with standard and simple lodge facilities. Including food, but rooms with attached baths and toilets are not available. Due to the harsh weather conditions, the plumbing systems freeze, in the morning and night time. The foods are served in a spacious dining room with a fire place to keep the place warm and cozy. At Chukung, Dzongla, and Thagnak including Gorakshep the lodges with minimum facilities with a basic food menu to enjoy. These are temporary seasonal settlements, as well as the high altitude terrains. But enjoyable with local foods like Dal Bhat, Noodles fried or noodle soups, and fried potatoes, etc.

PHYSICAL FITNESS REQUIREMENT AND INSURANCE:
For this tough and adventurous trek, members must be in good physical shape. As well as with sound health for the challenges of climbing on steep uphill’s and long downhills. Including the cold morning and night freezing temperatures, as well as walking on snow and ice sometimes. The age should be a minimum of 16 to a maximum of 70 years old. For below under 18 must be accompanied by parents and guardians. All trekkers must have Travel and Medical Insurance in case of unfortunate accidents and illness. Sometimes, the trek may have to be re-routed to other safe destinations. In case of broken trails from avalanches, and rock falls including the bad and unfavorable weather conditions. The daily normal flight from Kathmandu to Lukla can be delayed or canceled sometimes due to bad weather. Where trekkers should be well aware of all the unfortunate situations, if arise. The company will make the best effort for the safety and conveyance of all clients. Some members of the group might get seriously ill, which requires immediate evacuation. Using the fastest transportation for the safety of the sick clients as well as using services of Helicopter, to bring the patient to the nearest hospital. Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass Trekking leads you from one scenic valley to another exciting area. It is the famous Khumbu region of Mt. Everest. As well as within Sagarmatha National Park is enriched with exotic flora and fauna with the world's highest peaks. The first part of the walk leads to Gokyo Valley, which is quite different and unique, to other Khumbu areas. DETAILED ITINEREARY:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu 1,340 m and transfer to hotel.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, received by Himalayan Heritage Trek staff and guide. For short transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city around exciting place at Thamel area or close by. After checking into your rooms with refreshment our guides will brief regarding Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass trekking. Evening a welcome group dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurant with culture show. Day 02: In Kathmandu with optional sightseeing tour and trek preparations. Morning after breakfast, depart for cultural and historical tour around Nepal best World Heritage Sites. Tour of old Durbar Square (Palace Courtyard), The famous ancient Swyambhunath Stupa, includes places of interest, rest of the day preparations for Gokyo and Everest base camp treks.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla 2,860 m and trek to Phakding 2,610 m-04 hrs.
As time for morning flight to Lukla, transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport and then board in a small aircraft. Fantastic views of Himalayan peaks with Everest, as the flight heads north east to land at Lukla, Tenzing & Hillary small airport. At Lukla having time for refreshing break, and follow the lead guide to start the first day walk to Phakding. The trail follows downhill along the glacial Dudh-Koshi River, walking with few short ups and down through lovely Sherpa villages. After a pleasant scenic walk, then reaching Phakding Village for overnight stop, in the comfort of a nice lodge.


Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m-06 hrs.
Trek today leads to famous Sherpa Namche Bazaar. After a good breakfast, then start the morning walk with short down and ups and crossing exciting bridge. Then with short climb to Monjo village, then to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park (Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepali). From here short walk down to cross a bridge to reach the last Jorsalle village, before Namche Bazaar. Possible stop for lunch at Jorsalle nice lodge restaurants, afternoon walk on river bed within lovely forest. Lined with dense trees of rhododendrons, pines and firs, as climb leads to cross a high bridge. Then on winding uphill for few hours to reach Namche Bazaar, in the comfort of a good lodge. Facing views of Namche Bazaar with backdrops of Kongde range of peaks.


Day 05: Rest day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization with short hike.
Enjoy rest day in Namche Bazaar a perfect place with ideal height for acclimatization, before heading towards higher areas. The best short hiking around Namche Bazaar as follows: After breakfast hike up to the Park Headquarters a top ridge a place with interesting museum. Offers grand vista of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse with beautiful Mt. Ama Dablam, Khangtiaga, Tharmasarku. Including Kwangde Himal range of peaks, then visit the museum for information of the Sherpa cultures and history. As well as flora/fauna and of the mountaineering history around Khumbu and Everest. The other hike is climb above Namche Bazaar to Syangboche, and then walk up to Everest View Hotel, the first luxury hotels around Khumbu and Everest region. Day 06: Trek to Dole 4,110 m- 06 hrs.
Morning walk on gradual winding trail with views of Everest and Ama Dablam. Then the route diverts from the main popular trail of Everest base camp. As climb starts with steep up for an hour to Mong high ridge, offers grand views of towering snow peaks. From here downhill to Dudh Koshi River at Phortse Tenga for lunch break. A small settlement with few small simple lodges and Tea-Houses, afternoon few hours climb into a narrow gorge. Covered in tall rhododendrons, pines, oaks and firs trees, then reaching an open wide area at Dole. A lovely spot on the back sides of a holy Mt. Khumbila, the patron god of Khumbu Sherpa’s. Check into a nice lodge at Dole, overnight halt with the sound of Dudh Koshi River flow. 

Day 07: Trek to Machermo 4, 470 m - 04 hrs.
Morning from the lodge, having good breakfast, todays a short walk but the gain in altitude makes the trek slower. Start the morning walk with short steep climb to a ridge, reaching an open wider area. The walk follows on gradual ups past a nice small settlement of Luza, slowly the trail leads high above Machermo. Enjoy the first look of Mt. Cho-Oyu towards north with Machermo peaks in the west. After a grand view of the surrounding high peaks a short descend to a small river gorge. The gorge, is lined with small Poplar and Willow trees, a short steep climb to Machermo. A place with number of fine good lodges for lunch and overnight with nice rooms with a view. After lunch relax and catch with the dairy and take a short hike to viewpoints. Rest of the day at leisure before  afternoon tea and dinner time. 

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo Valley 4,800 m - 04 hrs.
Todays, morning takes you to our destination to Gokyo Valley of lakes. Starts with short steep up to a ridge, then walk on a gradual path to Panga. A small isolated spot with some simple lodge, from here with ups on the rocky path towards an ablation valley. The walk continues to reach the first lake, and then second Lake of Gokyo valley. After a short while then reaching Gokyo third lake, the main lakes of Gokyo valley. Also known as the Dudh Pokhari, like the Dudh Koshi River, it means a milky river due to chalky white color fed from nearby Ngozumpa glacier. Walk up to the lodge located above the Gokyo emerald colored lake, facing Mt. Cho Oyo and Gyachung Kang peak. On reaching the lodge check into a nice rooms and enjoy lunch along with surrounding views. Afternoon at leisure and marvel the glorious scenery of towering snow peaks. 

Day 09: Morning climb Gokyo-Ri, afternoon free at leisure.
A free day in Gokyo, for good hike and climb to Gokyo-Ri viewpoint. Rise early and start the hike before breakfast walking past the short of Gokyo third lake. Then a steep haul for few hours to reach on top of scenic Gokyo-Ri. From the top, spectacular panorama of world’s four tallest peaks, with Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho-Oyu. Includes grand scenery of wide Gokyo Valley and its emerald colored lakes, after a refreshing morning climb. Downhill to the lodge for breakfast and lunch, enjoy, rest of the day relaxing in the harmony of beautiful scenery.

Day 10: Trek to Thagnak 4,760 m-04 hrs.
Morning at leisure in no hurry, as todays walk is short distance to Thagnak at the base of Cho-La Pass. Enjoying the breakfast with delightful views of surrounding beautiful landscapes with lakes. Start the morning walk on the same route of previous days, after the last lakes. The route diverts heading straight towards east of Gokyo Valley, to reach Na a small Yak herders shelters. After few hours of pleasant reaching Thagnak, located on a corner with good simple lodges for overnight stay. At Thagnak for lunch and overnight before a long traverse over Cho-La Pass. Afternoon rest and save energy for the long climb and descend next early morning. 

Day 11: Cross Cho-La pass 5,420 m, descend to Dzongla 4,750 m -08 hrs.
Rising early before break of dawn, having good breakfast and carrying packed lunch for the long day. Follow the expert lady guide heading up with steep climb over rocks and boulders, having short rest. As cool morning walks progresses, after hours of steady climbing then reach on top of Cho-La Pass. The pass is marked with rock cairns and Buddhist prayer flags, if you have carried the prayer flags. Can hoist at the pass for the goodwill to come in near future, from the top of Cho-La. Enjoy views of Cholatse peak, with Lobuche East/ West and Nirekha peaks. Then head for the long descent, heeding slowly and taking care of slippery sections. To reach at the bottom of Cho-La pass, the walk gets pleasant for an hour to Dzongla for overnight halt. 

Day 12: Trek to Lobuche 4,960 m -05 hrs.
After an exciting adventure over Cho-La Pass, from Dzongla an easy walk with short climb to Lobuche for overnight. Morning from Dzongla, facing views of towering peaks of Cholatse and Taboche, walk leads on a gravel path. Then the walk joins the main trails of Pheriche and Dingboche heading up to Lobuche and Everest base camp. After walking on a gradual path for an hour reaching Lobuche for overnight in one of the best lodges Check into a nice room with views of Nuptse and Lobuche peak, Lobuche, is a nice spot well hidden from gusty cold wind. 

Day 13: Trek to Everest base camp 5,364 m via Gorakshep 5,180 m and walk back to Gorakshep.
Another early morning hike to Everest base camp, after breakfast walk on a gradual path. Then with short climb to rocky areas reaching above Khumbu Glacier, as walk heads down to Gorakshep. A small settlement with few lodges, beneath the towering Mt. Pumori, and Kalapathar rocky hill. After a short rest continue walk heading east, on a gradual winding path. After few hours of good walk, then reaching Everest Base Camp on the foot of Mount Everest. Enjoy the dramatic scenery similar to arctic landscapes, covered in moraine of rocks, snow, ice and glaciers. During mountaineering seasons in April and May, the base camp is crowded with tents of wide-world mountaineering expeditions. From Everest base camp return walk to Gorakshep for overnight halt in the comfort of a nice and simple lodge.

Day 14: Climb Kalapathar 5,643 m/18,514 ft. Trek to Pangboche 3,900 m through Pheriche Valley-05 hrs.
Start early morning before breakfast, for optional hike and climb to the top of Kalapathar. A famous and popular viewpoint and the highest point of the Adventures, a steep climb for few hours. From the top enjoy the breathtaking views of giant snow peaks with close look of Mt. Everest. After a mesmerizing views, descend to Gorakshep for breakfast, and then downhill past Lobuche and Thugla. From Thugla our route diverts heading downhill reaching at the valley floor of Pheriche. A pleasant walk for some hours having lunch stop in Pheriche, a nice settlement similar to Dingboche. Afternoon down to a river and up to a small ridge, and then downhill to Somare. From here a short descent to Pangboche for overnight stop. Pangboche is also on route to Ama Dablam base camp across the Imjatse River.

Day 15: Trek to Namche Bazaar via Tengboche 3,867 m-07 hrs.
At Pangboche with close views of Ama Dablam, after breakfast down to a river and cross the bridge. From here climb starts back into woodland, after hours of uphill reaching Tengboche. At Tengboche enjoy the panorama of giant peaks with views of Everest and Ama Dablam. Enjoy tour of the monastery interior of great cultural and religious interest. From Tengboche, rest of the walk on downhill to Phunki Tenga, after the bridge, climbs lead to Lobesa and Shanasha villages. Then on winding pleasant trail to Namche Bazaar for overnight halt in the comfort of a nice lodge.

Day 16: Trek to Lukla and transfer to a lodge-07 hrs.
Morning after a pleasant overnight in Namche Bazaar, enjoy the last day of Trekking. A long hour walks but easier of more descent with few short uphill, from Namche Bazaar downhill to Dudh Koshi River. Walk past Jorsalle and after the bridge a short steep climb to national park post. Reaching Monjo and continue walk to Phakding for short rest or lunch stop. From here few hours of good walks with last hour climb to Lukla. Arriving by late afternoon for overnight stop, with time to hang around and to enjoy the last dinner celebration with fellow members and trekking staff.

Day 17: Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Morning transfer to Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary airport, for smooth short flight to Kathmandu. Reaching back in the hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu, after a great adventure and wonderful experience on Everest Three High Passes Trekking. Rest of the day at leisure for individual activities and shopping souvenirs or join in for short tour around places of great interest. 

Day 18: In Kathmandu free day, for individual activities with options for tours.
A free day in Kathmandu to enjoy relaxing moments and for individual activities and shopping spree. Where one can shop souvenirs of Nepal from handicrafts to jewelers etc. Interested people can opt for another exciting tour of Patan and Bhaktapur cities on request.

Day 19: International departure for homeward bound.
Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, after an overwhelming adventure and experience around the high hills and valleys of Khumbu and Everest. As time for your international flight, transfer to the airport. Then bid farewell to Nepal, guide and staff; as you enter the air terminal for homeward bound or to next port of call. Please remember: The spare day in Kathmandu, in case of flight delay due to bad weather conditions. Might leads to cancellation sometimes, while the company will make all the best effort to manage the trip successful. But sometimes circumstance gets beyond the HH Treks command. FAQ’S (Frequently Asked Questions):

01: How tough and difficult is Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp Trek?
A moderate to adventurous with steep ups, includes long downhills. Trekkers must be aware that Nepal Himalayan landscapes are all ups and downhills. The only flat land is in around southern Nepal at Terai. The best is to walk slow with steady pass to overcome the tough and difficult uphill climb. Most of the trail are straight forward without much difficulties, as long you walk at slow pace. The only tough about the treks is gain in elevation, especially crossing over Cho-La pass. Walking slowly and having drinks with rest, will be good precaution against altitude sickness. Rest of the route is straightforward on daily walks to each overnights stops.

02: What can we expect on Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp Trek?

On this emergency case where victims have to borne all the expenses to be claimed from your health and medical insurance.
