BEST SEASONS FOR UPPER MUSTANG TREKKING:

The best time are late spring and early autumn/fall seasons for Upper Mustang.The spring season starts from March till May, most days are fine and clear with longer sunshine hours until the late afternoon from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. But get overcast during the afternoon sometimes, and chances of light snowfalls. Cold morning and in the late afternoon till nighttime. Depends upon the altitude, and around designated overnight stops as per the itinerary. The next best season is autumn/fall, most days are fine and clear with sunny days for clear views. Autumn/fall season, begins from September and ends in November, it is one of the peak time for trekking and other adventures in Nepal. In the autumn time, days are shorter and gets dark soon, due to limited sunshine
hours. Morning, and late afternoon until nighttime will be much cold, as well as chances of snowfall.

CULTURE AND RELIGION AROUND UPPER MUSTANG:

Nepal is a country of great diversity of landscape and people with their age-old religions, cultures, and heritage. The mid-hill people around Upper Mustang are known as the Lobas. Which means people of Lo or Upper Mustang region, the natives of Upper Mustang are of strong Tibetan origin. Interwoven with the Tibetan Buddhist religion of Mahayana sects of Buddhism, similar cultural heritage of their Tibetan predecessors. The walk leads across many Buddhist monuments and shrines, as well as the famous monasteries of Ghami, Charang and Lo Manthang. The religious monuments include a series of prayer walls and spinning wheels with impressive monasteries of great religious and cultural interest. The highlanders of Tibetan origin celebrate various festivals, the main occasion is
Losar, New Year. This year 2024 is the year of a Dragon. The major festival of Lo Manthang is the Tije, fall during May as per Tibetan
Buddhist Calendar.

FOODS, ACCOMMODATION AND LODGES FACILTIES:

The food and lodge accommodations around Upper Mustang are from simple, basic to standard. From Kalapani to Kagbeni, Ghami and Lo Manthang offers good lodge rooms and food. The rest of the areas offer excellent rooms with a
comprehensive food menu from Continental, Chinese, Indian, Nepali, and Tibetan main course with a choice of soups. The lodge accommodation and food are best in Jomsom and Lo Manthang. The lodge accommodations on this tour are simple with nice rooms. The rooms are on a shared basis with common bathrooms and toilets due to harsh terrain conditions. The plumbing systems for running water freeze in the morning, evening, and nighttime. Due to freezing temperatures above 3,000 m higher, using hot showers is at an extra cost. All lodges have electricity to light the large dining room powered by local hydro or solar power. For charging electronic items, at an extra cost per hour and for each gadget. Internet and Wi-Fi are available, but it is slow and disturbing in some places due to weather conditions. In a large group with more than 4 people, it is best to order a set meal for all. It
saves time and fuels energy, which is important around remote areas of the Himalayas. Following the norms and rules as Responsible Tourism and Eco- Tourism. As well as taking care of garbage and litter during the whole trip.

PHYSICAL FITNESS REQUIREMENT AND INSURANCE:

For Upper Mustang Trekking, the adventure includes climbing high passes. All easers must be physically fit and in sound health. For a person with a medical history and special dietary, please inform the company on booking. So that the company can make necessary arrangements, on booking for this adventures. Minimum age of 12 to a maximum of 70 years old. For minimum age of under 18 must be accompanied by parents or guardians, as well for elderly persons. All need to obtain Travel and Medical Insurance in case of unfortunate incidents and accidents. If some members get seriously ill, need immediate evacuation. Using fastest means of transportation including services of Helicopter to transfer the sick to the nearest hospital. In this condition, the client have to bear all the extra expenses as well as for accompanying staff. The extra expenses should be claimed from the insurance company. The company, and medical doctors will provide a supporting letter so that you can claim for the reimbursement from your insurance. To stay physically fit, one needs to exercise, like walking, jogging, or any other mgood physical exercise to keep fitness level. Upper Mustang Trekking, an adventure around Nepal Far North Western Zone of the massif Himalayan ranges. Where route follows the ancient and famous Trans Himalaya Caravan and Salt Trade Route of Nepal and Tibet, China. In the early day’s caravans of yaks, mules and horses followed the scenic and classic route. DETAILED ITINERARY:


Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu 1,300m and transfer to Hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, received by Himalayan Heritage Trek staff and guide. For short transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city around exciting place at Thamel area or close by. After checking into your rooms with refreshment our guides will brief regarding Upper Mustang Trekking. Evening a welcome group dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurant with culture show.


Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing and trek preparation.

Morning after breakfast, depart for cultural and historical tour around Nepal best World Heritage Sites. Tour of old Durbar Square (Palace Courtyard). The famous ancient Swyambhunath Stupa, includes places of interest, rest of the day preparations for Upper Mustang Trekking.


Day 03: Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m -06 hours’ journey (30 mins by air)


Adventure begins with an exciting drive on Kathmandu-Pokhara highway, an interesting journey around Himalayan midst and foot hills. As drive follows through nice farm country, villages and towns by the Trisuli River and then from Mugling Bazaar. The drive diverts west towards Pokhara with grand views of Manaslu Himal. During the drive facing grand views of Annapurna Himal and Machhapuchare Himal, the Fish-Tail peak. Slowly the drive enters Pokhara city, then heads to Phewa Lake side where all
good hotels are located. Enjoy the afternoon browsing around the lakeside, lined with fancy shops and restaurants. At Pokhara lake side in the comfort of a nice hotels with views of the lake and peaks of Annapurna Himalayas.

Day 04: Morning Flight to Jomsom 2,700 and trek to Kagbeni - 04 hrs

After a pleasant stop at Pokhara, morning and having early breakfast then short drive to Pokhara airport. After checking in board on a small aircraft for short flight to Jomsom. Takes less than 30 minutes, facing breathtaking views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range of snow peaks. Slowly the plane lands at Jomsom small airport runway, after a scenic flight. HH staff and guide receives you at the
airport, Jomsom is the headquarter town of Mustang district. The walk starts heading through the town and market then leaving the town following the Kali-Gandaki river valley. After few hours of good walk reaching a small settlement at Ekle Bhatti with number of lodges and restaurants. Located en route Kagbeni village and towards famous pilgrimage site of Muktinath Temple. The walk follows west high above the river valley to Kagbeni, a typical Tibetan like village. Kagbeni, is the starting point of Upper Mustang, and
the ancient Trans Himalaya Caravan Trade Trail of Nepal and Tibet. On arrival transfer into a nice homely environment lodge or guest house, and explore the village of great cultural interest.

Day 05: Trek to Chele 3,050m - 06 hrs.

Morning walk starts with short climb to reach an open wide valley enclosed by high walled Canyons and towering cliff. The walk leads to fascinating landscapes of red cliff walls, then reaching Tiri Gaon village. Enjoy the scenery of the beautiful surrounding terrains with eroded red cliffs and canyon, dotted with small caves. From here few hours of good walk to Chele village for overnight halt, on the first village of Upper Mustang. Chele is also spelled and pronounce as Tsele the original.

Day 06: Trek to Gelling 3,540 m - 05 hrs.

From Chele, morning walk leads to climb towards Gyagar village, and from here enter the arid and dry country. The true side of Upper Mustang an extension of Tibet South West plateau. The walk follows with exceptional views of the barren country and yet scenic. Slowly the trek reaches Samar village, one of the nice looking village. After Samar village with refreshing stops, walk
towards a small place of Bhena. From here a steep climb up to a ridge reaching Yamda La at 3,860 meters pass. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of Mustang’s dramatic landscapes with views of Dhaulagiri Himalayan range. After a grand vista, walk follows down-hill to Gelling village for overnight stop, after walking through Syangboche village.

Day 07: Trek to Tsarang (Charang) 3,560 m - 06 hrs.

Morning walk from Gelling leads to Tsarang “Charang”, before starting the trek visit the old Gelling monastery. An exciting place with a Buddhist Mani prayer wheels, propelled by the rushing water energy. From here continue walk towards Ghami Khola (stream), after walk past series of impressive Mani walls (holy prayer stone). Then the walk leads to Dhakmar village for possible lunch stop, afternoon few hours treks reaches Tsarang village. This lovely village is surrounded by large fields of barley and buck wheat. Transfer into a nice homely guest-house for overnight stop, having time to visit the Tsarang old monastery.

Day 08: Trek to Lo-Manthang 3,700 m-05 hrs.

After an enjoyable and pleasant overnight at Charang, one of the major village around Upper Mustang. Morning leaving the lodge, walk to Marang village, from here climb to a high ridge top. Coming across number of prayer monuments of Chortens and Mani stones, enjoy the grand surrounding views. The route follows up to Lo-La Pass, with first grand views of Lo Manthang the former forbidden walled kingdom. Slowly the walk descends to a stream after the bridge enter the walled fortress kingdom of Lo Manthang.
Entering Lo Manthang an exciting medieval town lined with traditional Tibetan style houses with narrow stone paved streets. At Lo Manthang reaching for late lunch and overnight halts, rest of the day explore the amazing old cultural town.

Day 09: In Lo-Manthang for acclimatization with tour of interesting sites.

At Lo Manthang, the highest overnight stop of the adventure, a free day to explore Lo Manthang. A strong cultural heritage fortress town surrounded by great walls, to keep the intruders at bay in early days. At Lo Manthang visit the historical, and cultural center, the main attraction of Lo-Manthang are four main monasteries. The Namgyal Gompa, Champa Lakhan (God House), Red Thubchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the great Entrance Hall. To visit the former and late king’s fort palace, special permission required, rest of
the day at leisure.

Day 10: Trek to Dhakmar 3,810 m - 06 hrs.

After a great wonderful time and experience in Lo-Manthang, leaving the former forbidden walled kingdom. The morning walk heads towards the same route to Marang village, as the trail leads west following the old path to Dhakmar village
for overnight stop.

Day 11: Trek to Ghiling 3,806 m-06 hrs.

From Dhakmar village, morning walk leads back towards the long series of Mani Walls. After crossing a bridge over Ghami Khola to reach Ghiling village for overnight stay, time permitting visit the Gelling monastery.

Day 12: Trek to Chusang 2,980 m-06 hrs.

From Ghiling, the trail follows with slow climb towards Syangboche, from here few hours of walk leads to Yamda La. After enjoying the grand vista of surrounding picturesque scenery, then down towards Bhena and Samar Villages. The walk follows crossing icy stream to Gyagar and Chele villages and finally ending the day walks reaching Chusang/Tsusang village.

day 13: Trek to Kagbeni 2,830 m - 05 hrs.

After wonderful stop at Chusang, slowly the adventure comes to near end leaving the Upper Mustang. The route follows back to Kagbeni, walking on the same scenic windswept valley. Then finally the trail climb ups and then down to Kagbeni Village for overnight halt.

Day 14: Trek to Jomsom 2,715 m - 04 hrs.

Today the last walk of the adventure, retrace the journey towards the windy Kaligandaki River Valley to reach Jomsom town. Arriving by lunch time as well for last overnight stop around Mustang area. Jomsom and the Kaligandaki Villages are famous for delicious apples and its products.

Day 15: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.

Early morning after quick breakfast transfer to Jomsom airport for short flight to Pokhara. Reaching Pokhara airport short drive to the hotel by the Phewa Lake side, enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

Day 16: Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

From the hotel by the lakeside, transfer to Pokhara domestic airport for another short scenic flight to Kathmandu. Enjoy the sweeping panorama of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu ranges with rolling hills dotted with farm villages. On arrival at Kathmandu airport transfer to your hotels, afternoon free for individual activities or just relax and enjoy the day with memories of Upper Mustang Trekking.

Day 17: Transfer to the airport for departure.

Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, after an overwhelming adventure and experience around the high hills and valleys around Upper Mustang Treks. As time for your international flight, transfer to the airport, bid farewell to Nepal, guide and staff. Then head towards the air terminal for homeward bound or to next port of call.
